ABSTRACT:
Thousands of organizations worldwide rely on the EMC EmailXtender family of products for e-mail management capabilities to improve the operational efficiency of their messaging environments, reduce the cost and risk of legal discovery and automate e-mail retention and disposal policies to meet regulatory and corporate governance requirements. This ESG Lab Validation report highlights the capabilities and value of EMC EmailXtender software with a specific focus on new features added in version 4.8 including User Directed Archiving and Archive Process Tracking, which support Microsoft Exchange Server and IBM Notes/Domino environments.

While the frequency of user access of e-mails often diminishes over time, it is important that messages can be quickly found when needed–especially in response to corporate governance, litigation or regulatory inquiries. As shown in Figure One, ESG Research1 indicates that the primary record types requested to support a legal proceeding or regulatory inquiry are e-mail and the attachments associated with e-mail. ESG believes this also holds true for internal audits not driven by legal or regulatory inquiries.
